Los Angeles Mission College sought to create a new “gateway” building for their campus, and a new entry piece to the neighboring community. This new 3-storey 60,000 s.f. building would function as the headquarters for all Student Services and Administrative Services user groups, currently dispersed throughout different areas of campus. LAMC students could then arrive at a single destination that is both welcoming and efficient to register for classes, receive financial aid, and pay tuition, as well as receive specialized services. The third floor would incorporate a new suite for LAMC’s President – a space that would act as LAMC’s ambassador to visiting dignitaries, and as an instrument for the LAMC Foundation’s marketing efforts.

LAMC directed HHFA to develop program criteria for this new gateway building, accounting for the varied needs and levels of interaction for over 12 departmental user groups, in addition to the needs of the students seeking services from these different departments. The programming effort incorporates the potential for adaptation in space usage as advancing technology changes how student services are delivered. LAMC also requires that new campus construction shall qualify for LEED Platinum Certification.

Los Angeles Community College District regards the Programming Study as one of the most successful scoping efforts under the Proposition A/AA & J Bond Program.
