UCLA University Apartments Seismic Upgrades

Los Angeles, California
Project Status: Completed

The UCLA Housing Administration has implemented a program to bring all University owned apartment buildings up to current seismic requirements.  Investigations of several apartment buildings were conducted and a “repair plan” devised dividing the work into several phases to accommodate the academic calender and preparing the documents for construction.  Phase I involved the installation of a combination of steel moment frames with concrete grade beams and plywood shear walls.  Phase II involved the installation of additional steel moment frames and substantially more plywood shear panels through out each building structure.
